Italian Folk Songs

Saturday 9 July enjoy a beautiful summer concert in the Anglican Church of the Ascension featuring La Rocca Choir from Appiano Gentile.

Music by Arcadelt, Kedrov and Italian traditional songs.

Directed by Tito Lucchina

Composed by male voices “a cappella”, the La Rocca choir was founded in 1966 by a group of traditional folk music fans, members of the Art’s Friends Association in Appiano Gentile (Como, Italy).

Since this first meeting, six choir directors and more than 100 choristers have participated and two of the founding members are still actively on board: fifty years of strong friendship and passion for music. After
an initial dedication to folk songs inspired by the World War I alpine military divisions, still sung by the choir, CLR has gradually expanded the repertoire to popular folk songs and copyright pieces of folk inspiration.

Since its foundation, the choir held more than 500 concerts and participated to numerous exhibitions and competitions acclaimed by both critics and audiences. By twinning with the Weidenthal Cæcilienverein choir, Coro La Rocca has been appreciated also in concerts in Germany: this friendship continues uninterrupted
since 1982.

Since 2013 CLR embarked in a profound technical, vocal and repertoire renovation under the guidance of Mtro Tito Lucchina: singer, composer and orchestra conductor, he has a long term friendship with the choir, to which, during many years, he has personally dedicated many arrangements.

In year 2000, the choir produced the CD “Canti Popolari” and most recently, the new CD “D’amor e D’accordi” dedicated to the 50th anniversary, containing the most relevant pieces from the current repertoire and some songs historically significant to the choir.
